Partner Explanation Page
KnowTheChain was created by Humanity United and is maintained through a partnership with the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre, Sustainalytics, and Verité. Each partner provides unique contributions to KnowTheChain based on their respective areas of expertise and organizational focus.
To date, our partners have supported KnowTheChain by developing benchmark research methodologies to evaluate company policies and practices on addressing forced labor risks, and by preparing resources made available on KnowTheChain.
Partner Roles:
Business & Human Rights Resource Centre is a non-profit that tracks the human rights conduct of over 6,000 companies worldwide. Their support of KnowTheChain focuses on communication efforts and co-managing with Humanity United the benchmarking methodology development and company evaluation analysis.
Humanity United is a foundation dedicated to bringing new approaches to global problems that have long been considered intractable. It builds, leads, and supports efforts to change the systems that contribute to problems like human trafficking, mass atrocities, and violent conflict. Humanity United founded KnowTheChain in 2013 and leads all aspects of the project, including the benchmark methodology development and the analysis of company policy and practice.
Sustainalytics is an independent environmental, social and corporate governance research, ratings, and analysis firm supporting investors around the world with the development and implementation of responsible investment strategies. Sustainalytics is responsible for conducting the research for each of the benchmarks.
Verité is a global, independent, non-profit organization that provides consulting, training, research, and assessment services with a mission to ensure that people worldwide work under safe, fair, and legal working conditions. They support KnowTheChain by helping develop and curate resources and improvement recommendations that companies can use to go beyond specific legal requirements, based on the benchmarks’ findings. Although Veritė currently provides or has provided services to a number of companies included in the benchmarks, it plays no role in ranking or evaluating company policies and practices for each benchmark.
Our partners allow us to work seamlessly across multiple business functions to identify key areas in need of support via the creation of resources and evaluation of company policies and practices.
